Ján Albrecht Music and Art Academy Banská Štiavnica (HUAJA) got the state agreement on January 2011 and started the first academic year in 2011/2012. The representatives – rector, vice-rectors, teachers and the staff – have rich experiences in educational, artistic and scientific activities. HUAJA is a private establishment in Slovak Music Higher Education Area and only one artistic private university.
HUAJA bears the name of outstanding personality, violist, aesthetician and theoretician Jan Albrecht (1919 – 1996) who comes from known artistic family in Bratislava. His father, composer Alexander Albrecht, was friend of composer Bela Bartók. In his family were world famous personalities as: János Vaszary (painter), Eugen Lehner (Kolisch Quartet member) and Thomas Messer (long period director of Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York). To the close friends of Jan Albrecht belonged Alfred Marnau (writer and poet), Emil Nolde (painter), Olda, spouse of Oscar Kokoschka (painter) and others.
From this point of view HUAJA puts a great emphasis on the quality of education, artistic and scientific activities and developing the creativity and ability of our students for their own professional life. The Ján Albrecht Academy of Music and Arts Banská Štiavnica is authorized to curry out in full-time or part-time study bachelor study programme (Bc.), master study programme (Mgr. art.) and in the doctoral study program ArtD.
